I'm really diving into my prep for Step 1 right now, and I'm starting to think about 2CK as well. I've been checking out a bunch of resources, but I really believe that having solid test-taking skills can make a huge difference on exam day, in addition to just reviewing the content.

Does anyone have favorite strategies or habits that helped them crush Step 1 or 2CK? Whether it's managing your time, flagging questions, or tips to stop second-guessing yourself, I'd love to hear what worked for you.

It's great that you're thinking about this!
Test-taking skills could really help!
What I would usually advise based on experience is to review why I got questions wrong instead of just focusing on searching for the right answer.
I think that helped build my endurance and identify weak spots!
For 2CK, time management is more crucial with those longer vignettes.
Practice active listening during patient encounters in your mind and quickly eliminate obviously wrong answer choices to narrow down your options.
When you know you've prepared well, trust your gut on that first pass since second-guessing often leads to changing a correct answer to a wrong one.
Good luck, you got this!

Step scores aren't just about knowledge, they reward test-savvy over deep understanding. That's the game. Master UWorld logic, not medicine....if you're still second-guessing on exam day, you studied content more than strategy and that's backwards.

That's smart to be thinking about test-taking skills now, especially for Step 1. Those habits can really save you on test day!

The responses above are good but personally, the flagging system really helped me strategize and make use of my time well. Say if I read a question and I don't know the answer in about 30-45 seconds, I pick my best guess, flag it, and move on. The goal is to not get bogged down. Then, at the end of the block, I'd have 5-10 minutes to review those flagged questions. It's a lot easier to come back with a fresh mind and re-evaluate, and it keeps you from panicking about the clock.

Also, for the second-guessing part, trust your first instinct! Your initial gut feeling on these exams is often right. The more you overthink it and go back, the more likely you are to talk yourself out of the correct answer. Good luck with your prep!
