I found a few USMLE Step 1 tips and summarized them, because I saw that many people were asking about them
Step 1 Test Taking Hacks:
- Focus First: Often, the last sentence of a question has the key info you need. Don't get bogged down in unnecessary details.
- Prioritize Strong Clues: Histology, pathology, tumor markers, and clear evidence usually trump vague clinical details.
- Trust Your Gut (Initially): Your first answer is likely correct. Only change if you're very sure.
- Risk Factor Shortcut: If the question asks for a risk factor, "smoking" is a frequent answer.
- Chronic + Weight Loss = Red Flag: Think cancer if a condition lasts months and involves weight loss, unless GI issues are strongly suspected.
- Bypass the Unclear: Can't figure out the audio/visual? The case history often holds enough clues to answer anyway.
- Don't Sweat the Unscored: Around 15-20% of questions are experimental and don't count. If one's impossibly hard, make a reasonable guess and move on.
The main takeaway is to take Step 1 seriously and utilize effective study resources.
